What’s a Theme vs a Template?

Check out the third video of our FAQ series, where Dan finally breaks down the differences between a themes and a templates!

Themes Vs Templates Video Transcript:

Hey, guys, what’s up? Dan at Metro Nova Creative continuing our series about website FAQs. We build custom WordPress websites for clients, and we get a lot of the same questions, so I thought I’d produce some content on FAQs for websites. So the next thing we’re going to talk about is what is the difference between a theme and a template? So a lot of business owners say they don’t want a template website. Fun, fair. Templates are like Wix, Squarespace. They don’t want their website to look like everybody else’s. They want it to be customized. We don’t build template sites. Even in WordPress, there are templates out there that you can utilize. We tend to not do that. We build everything custom, so wire framing from scratch, a great product that fits the needs for your business.

We do, However, use themes. And you might think, isn’t a theme the same as a template? No, it’s not. So a template is a prefabricated structure of a website, right? So you’re just changing the colors, the fonts and some photos, and it’s all in the box. It is what it is. Here you go. We don’t do that. We utilize a theme. Typically, we’re using Elementor Pro, which comes with a slew of amazing services and products. And what a theme is if you think about that more as a toolbox. So it’s a box of tools that allows us to construct these custom website with whatever we need. It comes with a bunch of different things, a bunch of different features, font packs, different plugins, things like that.

So the easiest way to differentiate the two is a template is a premade structure. A theme allows you to make a new structure. So those are kind of the differences between a theme and a template.

If you have any questions, you can visit us at metronovacreative.com. You can email me at dan@metronovacreative.com. You can also follow us on social media. We do a lot of this fun stuff. And if you have any questions about maybe getting a quote
for a website, hit us up on the website. Shoot me a message. Whatever you need to do, hopefully we get an opportunity to work with your business and as always, be kind, be well, and have a good day. Later.
